Ten Years, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

14:00 05/12/2015 Where can you find all the famous Malaysian cuisine in one place? A common question was thrown to us whenever a friend passes by in KL. Without batting an eye, we say Jalan Alor. But all had changed now when we discover Ten Years restaurant, located in the foodie paradise of Sri Petaling. This restaurant gathers  Malaysia’s famous and street foods under one roof. We’d spoke to their chief food servant and come to know this restaurant pays the royalty to the families owning the famous recipes like that of Char Kuey Teow in Penang. This totally keeps the authenticity of each food served in this restaurant. As their mission is to preserve the Malaysian food culture by passing it to the next generations.

We’ve been greeted by the friendly staffs as we marched and immediately ushered to our seat. On any given day, reservation is a must on this restaurant especially during the peak hours as the queue is apparent. Good thing, we got a reservation ahead so went directly to our reserved table.

Inside Resto and Interiors

Literally, Christmas is just around the corner at Ten Years. The interiors are ornamented with different Xmas decors and symbols. To complete the yuletide atmosphere, Christmas medley songs are played which made us missed home.

Snowflakes hanging on the rolled bamboo blinds

While waiting for our ordered food, we inspect the dining area interiors, crisscrossed with the food servers ( that’s how busy they are) and took some photos.

The tables are arranged just like a typical Kopitiam. Have you seen the bamboo blinds? Nostalgic and classic isn’t it?

The restaurant crews are constantly moving and haven’t seen them idle. All of them are busy attending every customer and ensure the food are quickly served.

Alfresco dining anyone? This is intended for Smoking patrons.

They also have a private function which caters a large group of customers who prefers exclusivity.

We sample one top rated Malaysian Food “Tiger Char Kuey Teow” and two chef recommendation Nasi Kerabu Kelantan and Grilled Steak Assam Pedas

Touted as the Best in Penang

We had tried a different version of Char Kuey Teow or CKT in Penang Island. Definitely, we missed Tiger CKT on the list. They followed the recipe which had been for 60 years. Cool right? This version is less oily and spicy which actually win our taste buds. The plump prawns and generous crab shreds are a bonus.

Another Malaysian dish which captures our palate is the Nasi Kerabu of Kelantan with Ayam Percik. We’re amazed seeing a blue rice ( blue coloring from bunga telang)  for the first time.

The freshest veggies mixed up with minty garnish adding some sambal bawang on the blue rice is heaven. The salted egg and ikan keropok balance the sweet and spice mixture which make this dish as an orchestra of flavors. While ayam percik stands out on its own.  It’s sweet and gingerish grilled aroma similar of Filipino dish inasal. Definitely got our thumbs up!

Grilled Steak Assam Pedas, this western favorite got a new twist. The meat is tender and grilled to perfection ensemble with a spicy-tangy kick courtesy of assam pedas. We gobbled this meaty treat like starving lions. Rawr! If you opted to try this, leave enough space of your stomach. This is heavy!

We quenched down our meals with refreshing Thyme lemonade, Berry Cooler, and Lemongrass sours. A perfect complement on those gratifying meals.

To conclude our food mission, we enjoyed our Banana Kataifi. Since it’s Xmas season they made it something special with candy cane and snowman. Nonetheless made our sweet tooth satisfied.

Ten Years restaurant truly live to its expectation of bringing all the best Malaysian food under one roof. This is the first restaurant in Sri Petaling and another branch will open soon in other areas of KL. A testament of it’s growing patrons.
