How to go to Koh Lipe Thailand

Where and How to go to Koh Lipe? We always got similar query each time we mention the beautiful island of Koh Lipe. It is a small island in Andaman sea, which is part of the Tarutao Marine National Park, Satun Thailand.  The only way to reach Koh Lipe is by boat. But before you schedule that awesome trip. It’s good to plan  which month you visit this island.  There are two seasons observe in Koh Lipe which might affect your travel plan and preference. High season starts from November till April while Low season begins May till October. It’s best to visit end of April or first week of May as since crowd is a bit lesser but not totally deserted.  Now how to go to Koh Lipe?

1. Bangkok/ Kuala Lumpur/ Singapore to Hatyai/Pak Bara to Koh Lipe

There are daily flight from Bangkok/ Kuala Lumpur to Hatyai through AirAsia or Singapore to Hatyai via Tiger Airways

If you’re coming from these cities, it is best to take a flight straight to Hatyai, rather than taking a bus or trains. It saves a lot of time and energy.
 
If the flight arrives before 9AM Thailand time, you still have time to catch the first boat in Pak Bara leaving for Koh Lipe. There is a travel tours booth on the right side of an arrival area. They can arrange a transfer to Pak Bara Pier to Koh Lipe.




Airport/ Hatyai Town to Pak Bara Pier 

Travel time: Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes

Options: Private Taxi or Shared Mini Vans

Shared mini vans cost between 150-200 Baht/ each person

Private Taxis – Range about 2000 -3000 baht. May depend on your haggling skills.

Tip: Better take a package from any tours in Hatyai   Minivan+ Boat transfer to Koh Lipe only costs about 600-700Baht. Can be cheaper if you included a return trip.




Pak Bara Pier to Koh Lipe

Travel time: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes

Speedboat to Koh Lipe : 500 baht

Pak Bara Pier serves the boat transfer to Koh Lipe whole year round. A special trip is opened in the afternoon during the high season. Please check the Pak Bara Boat schedule below for reference.

 
 

Upon arrival, you can buy boat tickets to any travel tours opposite to Pak Bara pier building. If you purchase the minivan + boat transfer package, you just had to handover the boat ticket and they will exchange it with a Boat Departure Card.
Pak Bara Pier Building
Before entering the departure gate, Pak Bara Pier staff will collect 20baht for an entrance fee. Then walk a bit, strike a pose from paparazzi then proceed to a departure hall.



Usually, the boat leaves Pak Bara on time as long as the turn around boat from Lipe arrives earlier. Enjoy the scenic view boat ride.


Koh Lipe Sea Platform to Koh Lipe Island

Travel time: 10 minutes

Long Tail Boat Transfer : 50 Baht

Conservation Fee : 20 Baht


The big speedboat can’t dock on the shore, so all guests will disembark on the floating arrival terminal. Then make a transfer through longtail boat. You need to prepare  50 baht for the boat transfer and 20 Baht for the Koh Lipe Conservation fee. On the way to the shore, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of Pattaya beach. Hello, Koh Lipe!



 
2. Langkawi, Malaysia to Koh Lipe, Thailand
 
Travel time: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes
 
Another option to reach Koh Lipe is via speedboat from Langkawi Island Malaysia. But this option is only available during the High Season. Please see the timetable below. 
 


 

Bundhaya Speedboat is one of the ferry companies that operates Langkawi (Kauh Jetty) to Koh Lipe and vice versa. Also they have speedboats from Phuket/ Krabi to Koh Lipe but only caters during the high season or chartered. Check their website for details www.bundhayaspeedboat.com
